| "Things I've Learned From My Children" |
| 2007-08-13 |
**Sorry the little pics don't show up - but this one is still pretty funny! ;)
Things I've Learned From My Children (Honest and No Kidding) A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2,000 sq foot house 4 inches deep. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.
A 3-year-old's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.
If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20X20 foot room.
You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on.
When using the ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way. The glass in windows (even double pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.
When you hear the toilet flush and the words "Uh-oh", it's already too late.
Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.
A six-year-old can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year- old man says they can only do it in the movies. A magnifying glass can start a fire even on an overcast day.
Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a four-year-old. Play Dough and Microwave should never be used in the same sentence.
Super glue is forever.
No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.
Pool filters do not like Jell-O.
VCR's do not eject PB&J sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.
Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving. You probably do not want to know what that odor is.
Always look in the oven before you turn it on. Plastic toys do not like ovens.
The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5 minute response time.
The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earth worms dizzy. It will however make cats dizzy and cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.
These came from an anonymous mother in Austin, TX (poor woman!) |

| Perseids Meteor Shower |
| 2007-08-13 |
This is an e-mail I recevied - Glad I didn't miss this annual event this year! - Perseids Meteor Shower Sky & Telescope > >Dark Nights for This Year's Perseids > > >Mark your calendar for Sunday night, August 12-13. >By ALAN MACROBERT > >This year the new moon of August comes on Sunday, the 12th, perfectly >timed >to bring dark, moonless nights around the peak of the Perseid meteor >shower. >Moreover, Earth should pass through the shower's richest part around 1AM >ET >on August 13th -- so North Americans and western Europeans should have the >best seats in the house. > > > > > >Stargazers could see more than one meteor per minute in s >with very dark skies. > >The Perseids are bits of space debris that were shed by Comet Swift-Tuttle >in past centuries and remain traveling more or less along the comet's >130-year >orbit around the sun. The particles range in size from sand grains to >pebbles, and they have the consistency of dry dirt. As it orbits the sun, >Earth >passes through this thin "river of rubble" every year in mid-August. Each >meteoroid rips into our upper atmosphere at 37 miles per second, creating >an >incandescent trail of shocked, ionized air. This hot trail, not the tiny >meteoroid >itself, is what you see. > >The Perseids are one of the two strongest, most dependable annual meteor >showers (the Geminids of December are the other; here's a _list_ >(http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/objects/meteors/Meteor_Showers_in_nbsp_2007. html) >of all the best ones). The grand Perseid displays of the 1990s seem to be >well and truly over, so this year under a dark sky you might see "only" 60
>to 90 >Perseids per hour between midnight and dawn. Light pollution cuts down the >numbers, but the most spectacular streakers always shine through. > >Sky Chart for August 12 > > >These meteors can flash into view anywhere in your sky, but all of them >(if >you trace their paths back far enough) appear to diverge from a spot in >northern Perseus near Cassiopeia. This is the shower's radiant point. The >radiant >is an effect of perspective; the particles are actually traveling in >parallel >through space. Meteors you see near the radiant look slow and short >because >they're coming at you almost head-on. Those far from the radiant appear >longer and faster, because you see them broadside. > >In early evening the radiant is low in the north-northeast, so Perseids >graze into the atmosphere over your part of the world at a low angle and >you >don't see very many. As the night grows late, the radiant rises higher in >the >northeast, the meteors arrive more nearly straight down, so you see them >in >greater numbers. By the first glimmer of dawn the radiant is quite high, >about >60° up for observers at mid-northern latitudes. > >How to Watch > >Find a spot with an open sky view and no glary lights. Bundle up in >blankets >or a sleeping bag, both for warmth and mosquito shielding (and don't >forget >the repellent). Lie back, gaze into the stars, and be patient. The >direction >to watch is wherever your sky is darkest, usually straight up. That's all >there is to it. > >And don't forget that the shower lasts more than one night. Rates are >about >a quarter to half the peak for one or two nights before and after. In >fact, >the shower lasts about two weeks and stragglers have been recorded as late >as >August 24th. > >Also, not all meteors you'll see are Perseids! In addition to occasional >random, sporadic meteors, the weaker Delta Aquarid shower is also active >during >Perseid season. The Delta Aquarids are slower, often yellower and fly away >from a radiant in eastern Aquarius. > >Sky & Telescope's website offers more tips on _watching meteors_ >(http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/objects/meteors/3304061.html) >and _what causes >them._ >(http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/objects/meteors/3304046.html) > > > |

| ME TOO! |
| 2007-08-10 |
Hey! I gota much needed nap today too! WHEW!
- And for those of you also in need of a good nap, but are having some trouble catching those "Z's" - Here's a little ditty to help you with your slumber - courtesy of Ernie from Sesame Street! :)
"Dance Myself To Sleep" - As sung by Ernie of Sesame Street - ( - comments by Bert, as his entire bed is lifted up by "The Boogie Woogie Sheep, and carried outside! ) Sometimes I have trouble Falling asleep But it's not so bad
(Not again)
I don't worry
(Ooooooh)
And I don't weep
In fact I'm glad....
Be-cause I get up off my pillow And I flip on the li-ight
(Turn the light back off!)
I get down and get hip In the still of the night I stretch and I yawn and then I breathe real deep
(Ernie!)
And dance myself to sleep!
(Ooooh, why me?)
I hoof around my beddie Just a-tappin my toes Before I know what's happenin' I'm a-ready to doze
(Oooh...)
Got some partners I can count on called the Boogie Woogie Sheep
(What?!?)
I dance myself to sleep!
(I don't believe this!)
I gently rock-a-bye myself across the floor
(Ernie!)
I turn and then I toss and then I start to snore
(Ernie!)
My trusty little bugle helps me spread the news That I'm tappin' to "Taps" And I'm a-rarin' to snooze!
(Oh, not the bugle)
(Smokin' bugle routine by Ernie begins, interspersed with comments by Bert)
(Ernie... Those sheep are tap dancing! Oooh, why me?)
(Ernie removes the bugle from his lips ... yet the bugle routine continues! Wild!)
Spoken: Oh, that's nothing, Bert, wait 'till you see Rubber Duckie play the bugle! Watch this Rubber Duckie, he's the Boogie-Woogie Bugle Duck of Sesame Street! (Ernie holds his duckie up to the bugle, squeezes his tummy and the bugle routine really heats up!)
(bugle solo ends)
(the sheep now begin to carry Bert and his bed out of the room)
(Ernie! Ernie! Your sheep!)
Well, I'm gettin' kinda drowsy
(Your sheep! Call them off, please! Hey!)
So the moment has come To grab my rubber duckie
(Oooh, not outside! Please!)
While the sheep take my chum Time to shuffle off to dreamland
(Not outside sheep! Errrrnie!)
Got a date to keep
We'll dance ourselves to sleep, oh yeah
(Errrrnie!)
We'll dance ourselves to sleep Wearin' our jammies We'll dance ourselves to sleep And thank you, lambies We'll dance ourselves to sleep! (final bugle riff)
(Ernie's trademark laugh, as Bert looks in from window with long-suffering expression)
SWEET DREAMS!

| Down on The Farm... |
| 2007-08-09 |
Well, Imanaged to get down to the farm today - after I started out, I saw dark clouds on the horizon....sure enough I ended up in a rainstorm, and thought about Bishop's Fantasy's white knuckle adventure that she blogged about earlier, as I too ended up following along behind a large white truck, being able to see nothing else, and there being no place to pull over and wait it out!
- Got there safe and sound, and even though the farm had closed for the day, (of course), - I was able to get in and work on the mural some more before the big 52nd Birthday event to honour The E. F., this weekend. (YAY!) - I don't have a digital camera, so the pics will have to come after this weekend (hopefully!).
I was able to finish the painting of The Merry Miller's house, and add The Wishing Well, (one of the newest recovered peices), and to add a little "landscaping", including the pond and stream that are connected with The Merry Miller's House. I feel like I got something done today, but I still have alot more to do - another stone to finish painting a Castle on, and some hands and feet for The Dish and The Spoon, to cut out of syrophome, that will later be fiberglassed, and attached to the figures as they are being restored. :) |

| tiny frogs - Wise words |
| 2007-08-08 |
There once was a bunch of tiny frogs who arranged a running competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower.
A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants...
The race began...
No one in crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower.
You heard statements such as: "Oh, WAY too difficult!!"
"They will NEVER make it to the top."
"Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!" The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one...
Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher...
The crowd continued to yell,
"It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!"
More tiny frogs got tired and gave up...
But ONE continued higher and higher and higher...
This one wouldn't give up!
At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top!
THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it?
A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal?
It turned out...
That the winner was DEAF!!!!
The wisdom of this story is:
Never listen to other people's tendencies to be negative or pessimistic because they take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you -- the ones you have in your heart!
Always think of the power words have. Because everything you hear and read will affect your actions!
Therefore: ALWAYS be...
POSITIVE!
And above all: Be DEAF when people tell YOU that you cannot fulfill your dreams!
Always think:
God and I can do this!

| Painting, painting, and more painting... |
| 2007-08-07 |
Didn't get to the farm like had planned to today, to get things worked on for this weekend's event - but I did get some painting done here today - did alot of small detail - my eyes are starting to cross! - no pics of anything yet - have to work on that! - Well it will be more painting tomorrow and back up to the farm later in the week - drop things off that I've finished, and work on things like the mural - kinda hard to work on that here! ;) - hubby got The Spoon handle made and fitted onto the bowl part of The Spoon - ( from Dish and Spoon nursery ryhme) - Have to take that back tothe farm and prime it and paint it and have the face painted on to it - then it gets attached to the board along with The Dish. Lots to do before the big weekend! :) |

| Lost day.... |
| 2007-08-03 |
Well the last few days did me in - going through the emotions of the memorial service and a HUGE lack of sleep (up til 4am everynight) - it finally all cought up with me - I had a migraine the entire day and night yesterday. UGH! I hate them and wouldn't wish them on anyone, but at least it wasn't quite as bad as they can, and have, gotten before. - But I lost an entire day. Hate it when that happens too. I have alot of work ahead of me, with getting ready for The E. F. Birthday event, Aug. 11th and 12th - lots of painting painting and more painting to do - and I need to get back over to the farm before that weekend, and get some more painting done on the mural too -*sigh* - of course it ususally gets like this every year - pretty hectic, but hey, it's all for a good cause! (Just hope I can get everything done that I want to get done before the deadline! (yipes!- fingers crossed!) Sorry I missed everyone's posts - now I'llhave to play catch-up - - - inbetween painting of course! ;)
Oh, and my lovely lap-top won't let me post an avatar - (lucky for you guys I guess!) LOL! :) |

| ...This I know.... |
| 2007-08-01 |
I went to my friend's father's memorial service this morning...Jesus Loves me....was sung at the graveside. They are a Christian family, and everyone in the family knows how to play an instrument. Their home was alsways filled with music. It was a song that the family sang together with him at his bedside before he passed away. I've always loved this song and taken great comfort in it - but I don't remember ther being other verses to it. Here is the song in it's entirety:
Jesus Loves Me Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so; Little ones to Him belong, They are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! He who died, Heaven's gate to open wide; He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! loves me still, When I'm very weak and ill; From His shining throne on high, Comes to watch me where I lie. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! He will stay, Close beside me all the way; He's prepared a home for me, And some day His face I'll see. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so. My friend and her family are all doing well, and we will be keeping in closer touch.
I also want to say thank you to those of you who posted comments on my last blog post about this, and shared such kind words. It means more than you know. :) |
