What's in a name?

Lots of folks on this site (and the internet overall), have lots of different names...
Some made up names, and some real names...

Got me to thinking...I know why I chose my shoutpost name....
Partly due to the children's storybook park I am helping restore peices of.
...so because of that I thought that "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary" fit me perfectly!

So....what inspired you to choose your ShoutPost name? ( and no...I'm not talking about if you use your real name....LOL! )

Going to be M.I.A. ...

Hi Everyone!Smile

Just wanted to say, I'm going to be M. I. A. after Feb. 19th, for a little while.  Nothing too dramatic...just some stuff going on that I need to take care of.  ( wow, that sounded mysterious!)

Really it's fine. Wink I am still a bit new here, but I have met alot of really great people, and have been "talking" with some of you through the ShoutPost messages and comments.
So I just wanted to let folks know that I'm not going to be on here for a little while, so that if someone sends me a message or comment, that they don't think I'm not wanting to reply, or just being my own "Contrary" self. Ha Ha!Tongue out

So...thanks everyone for the warm welcome here on good ol' Shout Post, and I'll bee back soon!!Cool

 -Mary, Mary
P.S. - We need a bigger variety of smileys on this thing!Sealed

The Senator Theatre - in Baltimore MD. >(update)...

Hi All!....In my Blog, I had posted about The Senator Theatre in Baltimore MD. - It is an historical Theatre, and is in danger of being auctioned off!......Well I just recieved an update of some good news from a friend...

>>Here is my original post:

Help save the historical, Senator Theatre in Baltimore Maryland!

2007-02-10

 Help save an historical landmark!

The Senator Theatre in Baltimore MD. is in financial trouble. They have a mortgage payment over due to First Mariner Bank for $91,000. If things don't go well for them, there will be an auction at 1:30pm on February 21, 2007.

The Senator had significant historical value because it's one of the few Art Deco single-screen theaters left in the US.

They are taking donations on their website (http://www.senator.com).

                                              ***************

 >>>HERE IS THE UPDATE:

" I just saw on WJZ that the Senator Theater has had a huge response from the public about the threatened auction.  Evidently, they are up to like $60,000 and more money is rolling in.  People are paying by Pay Pal and are bringing checks into the theater.  That's great, isn't it! "

                                       **********************

THE SENATOR THEATRE STILL NEEDS YOUR HELP!

 - SOOOOOO...If you have been able to help in this effort, than thank you, thank you thank you!...and if you think that you can help....then thank you thank you thank you!
(In advance!)

 :)

"One Flaw In Women"

Today I received this e-mail from a friend...it couldn't have come at a better time.
It is titled "One Flaw In Women"
I'm not sure who the original author is.
I have posted it below.
For me...I know that God gives me His strength to do what needs to be done.
I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.

I hope this inspires you too...

**************************

 One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men.

They bear hardships and they carry burdens,

but they hold happiness, love and joy.

They smile when they want to scream.

They sing when they want to cry.

They cry when they are happy

and laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in.

They stand up to injustice.

They don't take "no" for an answer

when they believe there is a better solution.

They go without so their family can have.

They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.

They love unconditionally.

They cry when their children excel

and cheer when their friends get awards.

They are happy when they hear about

a birth or a wedding.

Their hearts break when a friend dies.

They grieve at the loss of a family member,

yet they are strong when they

think there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss

can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you

to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.

They bring joy, hope and love.

They have the compassion and ideas.

They give moral support to their

family and friends.

Women have vital things to say

and everything to give.

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN,

IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

Ice, Ice Baby!

Well, nothing but ice and frrrrrrrrezin' rain here on the east coast!

 - Lots of BIG branches falling from HUGE old trees! We lost power fo a while, and now it's back on(of course), but schools are closed for tomorrow, ( the local high school is being used as a shelter for those who need it). The ice did begin to melt this afternoon, and dropped off of everything in large sheets, brings branches with it. Thank The Lord we have a genorator and a wood stove. Not alot do. Earlier, before we lost our power, I was making something in the crock pot, but had to nix that and put the food in the freezer...( chicken going bad is not a good thing!).  Well, hopefully the worst is over and we won't loose too many trees or plants in our gardens.  Guess we'll all just have to "settle down for a long winter's nap"!

Hope this finds everyone out there doing well, and staying warm! - I hear the storms are headed north, piling more onto already snowed - in/iced - in  folks!  - Prayers sent!

MIRROR, MIRROR

MIRROR, MIRROR

I think that I shall never see
A mirror as it's 'sposed to be,
A mirror that lies and makes me thin
And takes away my double chin.

And with compassion's gentle hand
It makes me svelte and nicely tanned.
No wrinkles, sags or extra skin
That covers where my youth had been.

Good mirrors hide my baggy eyes
And trim away my legs and thighs;
No knuckles swollen from cold rains
No worry 'bout unsightly veins.

But I've decided not to fret
Or let myself get too upset.
I've looked around and heaved a sigh
For others look as bad as I.

Mariane Holbrook

SPRING IS IN THE AIR!

As I sit here typing blogs and messages etc. I can hear little birdies at my window! Robins and others, with the promise of spring in their song! Oh I can't wait for spring!
I mean, if it's going to be winter, and it's going to be cold, then Iwant to see something for it! I want to see some SNOW! not alot, mind you...just enough to get snowed in for one day, (or maybe two). Just enough to be able to take a "day off", to sleep in, to do nothing but drink a tall glass of milk, count your supply of tp and curl up by the fire! Otherwise BRING ON SPRING!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, well one can hope anyway!Cool

IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S......

IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S......

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie", not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill".
People sometimes thought you were a boy.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.

YEAH! You owned a "Slip-n-Slide", on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once.

You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once !

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the sunshine family

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!)

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the
Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture;
and you despised Nellie Oleson!

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink!

PONG! ("video tennis" ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of !

Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty"
with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off"

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.
With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you dropped them.

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.

YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!

It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV.
Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry.
Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?"

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage,
or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books.
(Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)

You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics. (?? its not??)

You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.

You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first "real" perfume you ever owned.

You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped off.

PASS THIS ON TO ALL OF YOUR 30 OR 40-SOMETHING GIRLFRIENDS.
IT WILL MAKE THEM SMILE TOO!!!

STILL ROFLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone sent me this and I am STILL laughing! Thought to myself, "self...EVERYONE can use a good laugh!"...so everyone....ENJOY!Laughing

Read text first, then see attached video link
>
>Jennifer and Jim kept getting huge water bills. They knew beyond a doubt
>that the bills weren't representative of their actual usage, and no
>matter how they tried to conserve, the high bills continued. Although

PISSED

SO PISSED I COULD SPIT!
HOW DARE THEY!
HOW DARE THEY TAKE YOU - STEAL YOU
AFTER THEY NEVER ONCE CARED ABOUT YOU!
NEVER CALLING TO SEE HOW YOU WERE OR EVEN TALK ABOUT THE WEATHER!
NEVER COMING TO SEE YOU!
NEVER IN ALL THESE YEARS!
16 YEARS!
WHO DOES THAT!?!?
EVIL!
UNDERHANDED!
MANIACLE!
GOD HAVE MERCY ON THEIR SOULS!
I CAN'T EVEN SAY THEIR NAMES!
CAN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THEM!
CAN'T FORGIVE THEM UNDER MY OWN STRENGTH!
I HAVE TO ASK GOD TO HELP ME FORGIVE THEM,
SO THAT I TOO AM NOT SUCKED UNDER BY SATAN,
TO DWELL IN HATRED AND BITTERNESS!
ONLY GOD CAN HELP ME HEAL THIS BITTERNESS I FEEL,
THIS UTTER RAGE!
LORD GOD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME,
AND HELP ME TO DO YOUR WILL,
AND TO FORGIVE THEM. ...

AS THE LORD TEACHES US, ...
BE WISE AS A SERPENT
AND HARMLESS AS A DOVE

I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST THAT STRENGTHENS ME.

I AM LOVED

AMEN

Missed

You are missed
much more than you know
I'm so glad you were, and still are part of this family
You didn't have one of your own
- not one you could count on
But God gave you to us, and we are still here
to carry on your memory
year throughout year
so suddenly gone
so terribly missed
who knew in an instant
that you would be gone
So young,
So kind
A heart of gold
we would have never believed it
if we hadn't been told
We miss you
We love you
a part of our family
we loved you when your own family didn't
You are in our hearts and our lives
forever and always
At last at peace
as you are given your wings, and surrounded by love
now fly and be free, embrace the peace and love that our Lord brings
We Love you
And we thank our Lord for bringing you into our lives
You are loved

Well, we'll see how this blogging thing goes....Hope to meet some interesting people here!
